This young man’s coming out story was inspired by a Utah Christian who wrote an article last year calling for more acceptance and understanding, “I’m Christian, unless you’re gay.”
“The more you put your arm around those that you might naturally look down on, the more you will love yourself,” he wrote. “And the more you love yourself, the less need you’ll ever have to find fault or be better than others. And the less we all find fault or have a need to be better than others, the quicker this world becomes a far better place to live.”
This young man’s teacher asked the class to write about what that article meant to them. Turns out the young man was gay and greatly feared his bigoted mother’s response. What might make you sad and leave you cringing will instead make your heart soar. Read on here. This is the compassion we could use more of in our crazy world.
