As you can tell with me reading The Happiness Project, I’m interested in the study or the pursuit of happiness. How do we define it? How do we obtain it? How do we recognize it?
This author has been studying “flow” for three decades. His research and conclusions are fascinating. I should have probably called this post “What I’m listening to right now” since I’m listening to it on CD in my car, but you get the point. I’m reading about happiness. I’m listening to people talk about happiness. I’m in pursuit of answers and ideas. More and more I’m realizing that happiness is not a set of circumstances but rather a choice.

What I ‘discovered’ was that happiness is not something that happens. It is not the result of good fortune or random chance. It is not something that money can buy or power command. It does not depend on outside events, but, rather, on how we interpret them. Happiness, in fact, is a condition that must be prepared for, cultivated, and defended privately by each person. People who learn to control inner experience will be able to determine the quality of their lives, which is as close as any of us can come to being happy.
